Porcelain’s Care and Maintenance

TYPES OF DETERGENTS ACCORDING TO THE TYPE OF DIRT

Below we suggest the most suitable substances for removing localized stains. We do not recommend specific names of detergents but types of products:

TYPES OF DIRT                                              SUGGESTED PRODUCT

.Beer, wine, coffee, ice cream and fruit juice Sodium Hypochlorite Solution or Alkaline Detergent

INITIAL FIRST CLEANING

“End of work” Cleaning: it is the most important part of the work, because it will set up the result of the next uses of the product. The objective of this phase is to eliminate all traces and residues of materials from the surface of the porcelain’s plates.

In case to use during placement a cementitious sealer (adhesive and pastine), once it has dried, we recommend to do the following:

Remove the coarsest dirt with a suction machine.

Wet the floor with clean water, so that the joints get impregnated and protected from the corrosive action of the detergent.

Clean with a suitable acidic detergent, applying by hand (using a clean cloth) or by using a machine (single-brush with medium-hard, non-abrasive bristles) or with a hydro pressure washer.

Remove the water with a clean cloth or a suitable suction machine.

Rinse abundantly the total surface with clean hot water to neutralize the action of the detergent.

ORDINARY MAINTENANCE

This is the common ordinary cleaning on floors and walls, and that, in general, consists of:

Suction of dust, dirt and debris.

Wash with diluted-neutral or alkaline detergent.

Over “non-slip” materials and in places where a highest level of hygiene is required (kitchens, food stores, etc.), it is recommended do cleaning jobs frequently, even daily.

MATTE AND POLISHED SURFACES

To clean matte or polished surfaces, it is necessary to use hot water and low-alkaline detergents that can normally be get in shop stores (products containing hydrofluoric acid and its derivatives should be avoided).

It is suggested not to use detergents that contain waxes to avoid the formation of grease’s layers on the surface of the porcelains plates.

In cases of particularly difficult stains, we recommend to do a very local cleaning by following the indications given above in the table “Type of Detergents” depending on the type of dirt.

EXTRAORDINARY MAINTENANCE

This is a particularly intense and precise cleaning which may become necessary on an annual or semi-annual frequency. It is carried out with the same method indicated for “Ordinary Maintenance” but, in this case, using medium concentration detergents instead.

In cases where some specific place needs special cleaning (kitchens, hospitals, stores, shoppings,  etc.) or has some particularly difficult type of dirt to remove (external floors, offices, etc.), it would be a good recommendation to do the cleaning’s jobs indicated above in combination with washing-drying machines and using specific products.
